I was searching for some grown woman inspiration for my birthday (July 1st). I knew I wanted to celebrate with other women. I knew I wanted to do something different. I knew I wanted to inspire others and be inspired in the process. When I sat down to think about what was currently inspiring me, I had to look no further than my new favorite talk show, Red Table Talk, which Jada Pinkett- Smith hosts on Facebook!
I forged ahead, planning my dinner party. Although I made a ton of edits along the way concerning the who, what, and where, I love the final result. I posted the photos on my social media accounts, and so many women were inspired. So, I decided to create a blog and a video (see it here) sharing with you how I did what I did, in hopes that you’ll do it too!
Once you decide who you will invite (my list went from over 20 people to 5 local people that I actually talk to outside of social media), and where you will host your party (I decided to do mine at home because my home is my haven), you can start to go into the other party planning details. Let’s get started!
- Color Scheme: What colors will you use? I went with the new trendy colors, rose gold and blush. You will want to be sure your colors are reflected in various ways throughout your event and even on your invitations!
- Questions: Red Table Talk is all about powerful, life-changing discussions! My daughter and I created questions and we scoured Pintrest for some questions as well. Our questions were written on post cards and my guests randomly selected questions to answer. I cannot tell you how powerful this was! We laughed. We cried. We were so blessed by each other’s life experiences and perspectives.
- Playlist: Music sets the mood! I had my favorite old school R&B/Pop songs playing in the background when my guests arrived. I wanted a fun and free environment and I knew the ladies could relate to all the songs that were played. Create a playlist of your favorite songs that best express the mood you want!
- Decorations: Will you have a backdrop? What will you want on your dinner table? Will there be a gift table that needs decorations? I knew I wanted a backdrop, so I reused a fabric over PVC pipe backdrop (my version of pipe and drape) that I have used a million times. This time I added a modern balloon arch using balloon tape, and letters I cut out from foam board and painted, that read “Happy B-Day”! My dinner table was covered with with cotton table cloths, a rose gold sequin runner, and loads of fresh flowers and white candles! Rose gold plates and cutlery along with white linen dinner napkins completed the look. I personalized the table with printed menus I made using the graphic design app Canva, and I made hand written place cards for each guest. My dessert table was covered with an awesome blush colored faux fur table runner I snagged from Homegoods. I topped it with a $3.50 sign I created from Staples. I added fresh flowers, candles, a statue and lamp I already had around the house, and then placed my cupcakes (I ordered them from a local bakery and wrapped them in blush colored dye cut cupcake wrappers) and napkins there.
5. Menu: Whether you get your food catered or cook it yourself like I did, you want to make sure that your menu has a story about YOU! This will give you a personalized touch to your party that further helps you and your guests connect. My food was sparkly, sweet, comforting, and chic! I love to mix unexpected things together and I live combining high-end and low-end pieces together in my clothing and home interiors. I reflected that in my menu as well.
Check out this video I did about my party! I share a few more details there. If you have questions, be sure to leave them in the comment section. I always love hearing from you all!
