July 1st I celebrated a very special occasion, my BIRTHDAY! I never miss celebrating a birthday because I believe that life is a precious gift and it should be celebrated as often as possible. Regardless of the size of the celebration, I believe everyone should do something to mark their birthday as a special day.
Since I am usually the event planner for my family, I already knew I would be planning my party as well. I wanted to make it FABULOUS, yet EFFORTLESS as possible. For me, that meant no cooking and no laborious shopping. I also challenged myself to mostly use things I already had around the house. I like a good challenge anyway, don’t you?
I know you are here for the fruit parfaits, but for those people like me that love all the details, let me tell you more about the setup! I got the floral pattern dinnerware set a while ago from HomeGoods (my favorite store on earth). To add some more visual interest, I decided to pair it with gold eating utensils (which were plastic because plastic was just easier and inexpensive). The polkadot napkins were my favorite! I used a round sponge brush with gold metallic acrylic paint from the craft store, and dabbed those dots onto white linen dinner napkins I already owned. Since I actually have 5 people in my family, and I only had 4 napkins, I found a couple of white cotton dinner napkins on the cheap at the local Wal-Mart and turned them into gold polkadot napkins as well. The already owned the round white table cloth, and the chargers except the chargers were silver! Somehow I always miss when Dollar Tree has the gold chargers in stock. No worries though. I little Rust-Oleum Metallic spray paint in Pure Gold turned my charges gold in no time.
The glasses are from Dollar Tree. I stocked up on those in a variety of sizes a while ago. They have been a wonderful investment!
Moving on to the menu, the objective was to NOT COOK! We love the souffles from Panera, so that was a no brainer item to add to the menu options. I added a little flat leaf Italian parsley on top for color and presented them on a covered cake stand, which also added some height and visual interest to the table. Store bought blueberry muffins, another family favorite, were placed on my 2-tier plate platter. I made steel cut oats topped with fresh blueberries for myself. Fruit infused water in carafes added more visual interest. Other drink options were sparkling cider and OJ with cranberry juice mixed drinks.
Finally, on to the fruit parfaits! They were simply fresh fruit arranged in a small glass, topped with Greek yogurt and mint leaves! I hope you’re inspired to celebrate your life. No matter how great it may or may not be right now, there is always something to celebrate and be grateful for!
